Brewing Beer in Bewdley

Today Ross and me jumped out of bed early and went over to the Bewdley Brewery to help Dave Carr the brewer cook up some of his prize winning Worcestershire Way.  After a 3am finish, a 7.30 departure from The Prince was always going to be a challenge, but we managed to make it across The Severn and met Dave and Tim just after 8am. The Hot Liquor was already up to temperature so we were straight in hydrating the mash and loading up the mash tun. With no breakfast that malt smelled lovely, like a big bowl of porridge, steaming and sweet, so we both had a little taster!

Almost ten hours later we emerged: the beer was brewed and the brewery cleaned down for the next brew. In classic Blue Peter style, we enjoyed some Dave and Tim had prepared earlier, jumped in the car and after a quick stop at Captain Cod in Kiddy, arrived back at the Prince.

We learned a lot and hopefully this new knowledge will help us conclude a deal with Punch to brew our own beer at The Prince. Fingers crossed everyone!

If you ever find yourself in Bewdley, the brewery is well worth a visit … the hospitality great and the beer even better! Worcestershire Way is very good but seek out the William Mucklow, now that’s a beer that could well put Bewdley back on the brewing map!
